Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the status of analytical systems, execution and interpretation of urinary protein electrophoresis in eleven participating laboratories, all members of the Protein Forum. Laboratories processed aliquots of the same eleven urines. The interlaboratory agreement was estimated using Cohen’s Kappa coefficient. It was found high diversity of methodologies and different levels of urinary concentration in the pre-analytical stage. The Cohen’s Kappa coefficient was 0.1650, IC 95%: (0.083-0.5638) indicated poor agreement. These findings indicate the need for standardization by consensus of this test to improve robustness and reproducibility.
