Abstract

Objetives. Determine the frequency of risk factors, incidence and risk of development of Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM 2) according to occupation in a cohort of hospital workers in Posadas, Misiones, from 2002 to 2012. 391 employees without diabetes at the beginning of the period were recruted. Personal survey, antropometric measure, blood pressure data were recorded and blood sampling. Nursing staff was ≥ 45 years old, overweight-obesity, metabolic síndrome and high glycemic feeding when compared with other occupations. Incidence rate was higher 0,965 (IC 0,4665-1,785)/100 people-year, in the nursing group. They showed a higher chance (HR=3,52, IC95%: 1.27-9,75; p: 0,026) of DM2 than the other workers. Nurses begin the study with more DM2 risk factors than the other workers and and they are who showed major disease incidence at the end of the study.
